Lady Elizabeth Isley

as portrayed by Hilda Brady

Life has been good to me. My beloved Queen Elizabeth was so gracious to in trust me, Lady Elizabeth Isley, to continue the work of my late husband, Sir John Mason, as Treasurer of the Chamber.

How strange it is to think back when I was Elizabeth Hill, caring for my many children. Richard Hill, my first husband, was Sergeant of the Wine Cellar under King Henry VIII. Our life was pleasant. Richard was very good to me and cared for our children. When Richard passed away, I was left to care for my children with the modest income that was left to me.

My daughter Mary became wife to Sir John Cheke, clerk of the Parliament. His position placed him often in contact with Sir John Mason, a highly respected Ambassador and statesman. My son-in-law introduced me to Sir Mason and, soon after, John and I were wed.

How different my life has become! I have a fine estate in Kent, a house in London, and my days are very busy with my new position as Treasurer of the Chamber.
