Sir William Paulet
3rd Marquess of Winchester
as portrayed by Bobby Hull
I, Sir William Paulet, 3rd Marquis of Winchester, son of John, and
grandson of William, was born in 1535. My Grandfather was the Comptroller
of the Royal Household of Henry VIII, of blessed memory, so I was privy
to many of the events going on at court when I was but a lad.
At the age of 20, I was knighted and became High Sheriff of Hampshire.
Also at this time I was married to Agnes Howard, 1st daughter of William,
first Lord Howard of Effingham, and granddaughter of Thomas Howard,
2nd Duke of Norfolk. I have hence been made Baron St John, and on the
death of my Father 4 years ago was made the 3rd Marquis of Winchester.
Like my grandfather before me, I was asked by my sovereign to sit
on a commission to try a Queen. My grandfather sat on the council trying
Queen Anne Boleyn, and I was asked to sit on the council trying Queen
Mary of Scotland. A duty I accepted with some trepidation, but carried
out to my best ability. So much so that Queen Mary did excuse me from
her complaints made toward the council and she honored me to be her
lord steward at her funeral.
Presently I am entertaining myself with my writings, which I am dedicating
to her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, enlarging my ancestral home, "Basing
House" and going on Progress with her Grace.
