Sir Thomas Scrope, KG, 10th Baron Scrope of Bolton, Mascham and Upsallas portrayed by Michael Sanders Well met, my Lords and Ladies… I am a man of few words but strong convictions. I mean to strike true to the heart of any that threaten England and I dare any to attempt such. As for where I come from, my birth was at Bolton in Lancashire 42 years ago. My father and mother, Henry Scrope and Margaret Howard, the 9th Baron and Baroness of Bolton, Mascham and Upsall, were blessed with one additional son, Henry. However, since I was the firstborn son, it is I that inherited the title and the lands. Henry and I are quite close and he does a fine service to me in tending to the family house when I am away. I was betrothed to Philadelphia Carey soon after I reached an age that our parents felt that we were going to survive the maladies of youth and while I resisted this at first, I found Philadelphia to be quite the friend and a fine wife. However, the marriage has only seen the birth of one son, Emanuel. While at court I find that perhaps my wife and Her Majesty speak and whisper too much, but I trust my goodly wife to ensure that I am not put out too much in the entertainment of either of them. She means for me not to be bored and of this I am sure that she will succeed. How much I can stomach of this we shall see. My only saving grace is that I know that should I find myself at odds with either of them that I can sway Her Majesty to allow me to leave court for a short time to collect whatever is left of my senses and composure.
