Ye must bear in mind that the course of our lives may be determined by events of the past. England has been bankrupted by Bloody Mary and her husband, that cursed, Philip of Spain, all to pay for Philip’s wars. Good Englishmen saw that their country was in a tight place and risked their lives and fortunes to redeem it. My father, Bernard Frobisher, a prominent Yorkshire gentleman, staked his fortune by investing in trade voyages, as a Merchant Adventurer.

Being a younger son, I was sent off to sea at eighteen years of age, and have risen by my own accomplishments, into the ranks of Our Own Good Queen Bess’ “Gentleman Adventurers.” As such, I am at liberty both to trade and have the opportunity to seize enemy ships by the directions of my Letters of Marque from the Admiralty Court.

My first voyage to Meta Incognita (the Unknown Land), so named by our Queen, yielded a small amount of gold, enough that the Queen and the Cathay Company outfitted three goodly ships to return there and load a large amount of ore. Indeed, Gold Fever has struck all of England since. I am ill-pressed to have received a grievous wound while in battle with the native cannibals, and have received some small reward for my sacrifice and effort.

I must constantly be on guard for that Spanish dog, Mendoza. He had tried to spy on my preparations for my second voyage to that far frozen land. I had a bad feeling that the cur hath managed to sneak a spy into my crew. At any rate, my mission was a success, bringing back sufficient ore to be processed.

Recently, I have returned from a third voyage which has resulted in returning with over 1200 tonnes of gold ore. Her Majesty hath rewarded me with a gold chain. For me, it has been far more rewarding to have been Captain General of a fleet of fifteen ships. Mayhaps soon I shall receive a well-earned Knighthood.
