Sir James Melville,
Ambassador from Scotland

as portrayed by Denny Thompson

My first official appointment came as I turned 14 and was sent to France to serve Mary, Queen of Scotland and Dauphine of France as a page. I was attached to her service until she abdicated her crown, then began serving James. Later I fought with the French at the Battle of St. Quentin, was grievously wounded in the leg and was a prisoner for a time. It was during my time as a prisoner that my career as a diplomat began. Later Henry ll gave me several other assignments that I was able to conclude successfully. I returned to Scotland with Mary and was given a pension and an appointment to her household. I crossed the border with her and was able to complete a few missions until she was too restricted in her confinement for me to do so.

Currently, I am in England serving King James, and preparing for the transition to come. Fortunately, Elizabeth likes me and the weather is much preferable to Scotland. Not quite southern France though.
