Denny Thompson

Dennis (Denny) grew up in the Washington D/C. area. He began music lessons at eight years of age( and still hates the sound of a solo piano), by 10 he was playing drums in the school band, switching to Tuba in seventh grade.

He began college as an applied tuba major, later changed majors several times( and was accused of forcing the admissions and records office to have to go to computers) and finally graduating in History with a strong Political Science minor. He later earned a Masters in Social work, worked 15 years in programs serving the developmentally disabled, and for the last 19 has worked in child welfare primarily as a child protective services investigator.

After almost 20 years without playing an instrument, Denny began playing the bagpipes and currently is serving as personal piper to the MacTavish of Garthbeg and as Pipe Sergeant for the Chesapeake Caledonian Pipe band. Denny maintained his interest in history and began to join reenactor groups first as piper for the Appen Stuarts circa 1746, then adding McKays regt. in the 30 years war, and the Royal Scots in 1632.

Denny came to rennaissance faires as a house piper for several faires and his bands regular appearances at the Maryland Renaissance Faire. Somehow his role has morphed into regular cast and his piping has become rather secondary.
