The Yeomen of the Queen’s Guarde

Valecti Garde (Corporis) Domini Regina

About the Authors
Steven Heubusch, the son of a retired Air Force Officer, grew up in England where he developed a strong interest in European History. Later, he and his family moved to Germany where he graduated from High School in 1990. While in Europe, Steve enjoyed travelling, mountain climbing, and skiing. He also became a Archery and Rifle Shooting instructor and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Upon his return to the United States, Steve enrolled at Alfred University where he worked on the Security Force and on the Rescue Squad, eventually as Captain. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1994. Steve has worked at many Boy Scout Camps in Europe and the United States as Shooting Sports Director, as High Adventure Director, and as Medical Officer. He has been an Intern on Capital Hill, a Staff Member of National Louis University, and a Contractor for the US Department of Energy. In 1997 Steve earned certification as a Network Engineer and is currently employed as a Network Administrator/LAN Technician for Retired Persons Services, Inc.

Since 1997, Steven has been able to put his interest in European History to use as a Cast Member of the Virginia Renaissance Faire (VRF), The North Carolina Rennaissance Faire (NCRF) and as a cast member of the Guilde of St. George of Virginia.  He is one of the founding members of the Yeomen of the Guarde at the VRF.  He has portrayed Sergeant, and then promoted, Lieutenant John Lackland, Second in Command under Captain Sir Walter Raleigh, and Sir Thomas Heneage at the VRF.

Michael Sanders is a 14-year veteran of the United States Army, having served as an Artilleryman and as a Programmer/Analyst.  During his service, Michael was stationed in Oklahoma (Ft. Sill), Germany (Stuttgart and Giessen), California (Ft. Ord), New York (U.S. Military Academy) and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.  He has also worked for eight years as a computer WAN/LAN support contractor for the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, the Corporation for National Service and the District of Columbia.  Since 1997, he has been a federal employee with the Surface Transportation Board, Department of Transportation, in Washington, DC.

As a visitor to the Virginia Renaissance Faire of 1997, he asked how one could get involved with the Faire.  One week later, he found himself in costume as Yeoman Michael Robertson. This has allowed him to follow his interests in history and acting. He saw Yeoman Robertson become Sergeant Robertson, then Leftenant Robertson. He has portrayed George Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, KG and Sir Henry Sidney, KG.

Following the close of the Virginia Renaissance Faire in Fredericksburg, VA in 1999, he discussed the idea of a Manual of Arms with Steve Heubusch, based on his experiences in the Army.  It was agreed that one was needed for prospective Yeomen and anyone else who might have an interest, so the idea for a hardcopy Manual was born.  Following two hardcopy editions, this web site is the ongoing result.

Michael is now the Assistant Guildemaster for St. George Productions, a professional acting troupe located in Virginia with members of the troupe from Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia and North Carolina. Please visit the group's website by following the link in the menu to the left.
