The Yeomen of the Queen’s Guarde

Valecti Garde (Corporis) Domini Regina

History

"Gentlemen, raise your cups high!  I give you...THE QUEEN!"
Response "THE QUEEN!"
                 - A Yeoman's Toast

There is a very rich history to the Yeomen of the Guard.  They have been on duty for over 500 years, yet most of the Yeomen served without their names in any history book.

Absolute devotion to the monarch was unquestionably required to be a Yeoman.  It was a daily routine to put one's life at risk to ensure that no harm became of the King or Queen.  A very real possibility was that the very food that the Yeomen tasted for the monarch could have been poisoned for the sovereign's demise.

Yet, like much of the duties that they performed, tasting of the monarch's food was not something that the Yeomen were instructed to do - it was something that they did as a measure of their devotion.
