Polearm TransitionsTransitioning from the Order to the Advance
Transitioning from the Order to Any Other Position
Transitioning from the Advance to the OrderThe movement consists of four separate movements.
Movement 1 - In one motion, lift the weapon with your right hand until your hand is approximately face level. Grasp the weapon with your left hand approximately two feet below your right hand.
Movement 2 - Cup your right hand under the butt of the weapon.
Movement 3 - Move the weapon to your right shoulder. The weapon should be nearly vertical.
Movement 4 - Place your left hand on your hip or the pommel of your sword.
Performing movements 1 through 3 of the Advance allows you to quickly and uniformly move as a unit and presents a most professional image. It is then very easy to continue movement in a manner suited to accomplish the command. (I.e., if the command is to move to the Port, from movement 3 of the Advance, it is simple and logical to drop the weapon into the Port position by merely extending your left arm.)
The transition from the Advance to the Order is accomplished through a four step movement.
Movement 1 - Reach across your chest with the left hand and grasp the polearm, palm towards you.
Movement 2 - Move the weapon away from your body, but still at the near vertical.
Movement 3 - Move your right hand from the butt of the weapon to approximately two feet above your left hand (grasp the weapon firmly), release the left hand and slam the butt of the weapon to the ground with your right hand. Care should be taken not to strike your right foot during this movement! This entire movement should appear to be one fluid motion and should be as one with the unit.
Movement 4 - Place your left hand on your hip or on the pommel of your sword.
